AMD Dominates Desktop Processor Market Share
AMD continues its remarkable ascent in the desktop processor market, growing its market share to 28.7% in Q3 2024, a massive leap from 15.8% five years ago.

This represents an 81% growth, primarily at the expense of rival Intel.
A quick glance at Amazon's best-selling CPUs underscores AMD's dominance, with the top 10 spots all occupied by Ryzen processors from the 5000, 7000, and 9000 series, leaving Intel to trail behind at 11th place with its Core i7-13700K, a chip that’s already two generations behind Intel’s newest releases.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D: A New Leader
While some argue that Intel’s recently launched Core Ultra 200 series is too new to gain traction, AMD's latest flagship, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, proves otherwise.
Despite launching just this month, it has already claimed the number one spot on Amazon’s bestseller list, despite its price inflating from the original $479 to over $600 due to high demand.
For gamers on a tighter budget, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D offers a compelling alternative at $349, holding the second spot.
Budget-Friendly AMD
Rounding out the top three is the Ryzen 9 5900X, a four-year-old processor now available for $226, a significant 60% discount from its launch price.

Surprisingly, it outsells the Ryzen 9 5900XT, released this year but priced higher at $308. For those seeking affordable, high-performance options, AMD offers:
Ryzen 5 7600X at $194 (4th place)
Ryzen 5 5600X at $105 (5th place), a 12-thread powerhouse perfect for budget builds.
A Versatile Lineup for Every Budget
The 6th to 10th positions on Amazon’s bestseller list are filled by a mix of AMD Ryzen processors, including the:
- Ryzen 7 5700X3D
- Ryzen 7 5700X
- Ryzen 7 7700X
- Ryzen 7 5800X
- Ryzen 5 5500
With prices ranging from less than $100 to over $500, AMD ensures there’s a processor for every gamer and creator, regardless of their budget.
Ryzen 9000 Series Faces Early Hurdles
Notably, only one processor from AMD’s 9000 series appears in the top 10, likely due to lackluster benchmark results from its non-X3D variants at launch.
However, AMD quickly addressed these issues with a performance patch, minimizing any long-term damage to its reputation.
This minor hiccup pales in comparison to the major challenges Intel faces with its high-end Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh chips, which have struggled to gain significant traction.
AMD’s ability to offer competitive pricing, top-tier gaming performance, and a diverse product range solidifies its position as a leader in the desktop CPU market. As Intel scrambles to keep up, AMD continues to set the standard for innovation and value.
